Diesel: Coca Cola Bottle Clothes and 'Enjoy Before Returning' Policy

October 17, 2019

Coca Cola and fashion brand Diesel have partnered up to launch a recycled, sustainable clothing collection....coca cola but made fashion!

Now you may be thinking....

...and feeling that maybe this look isn't for you.

However, this is not the approach Coca Cola and Diesel have decided to take.... they have decided to actually produce 16 clothing items that are made with old plastic Coke bottles that have been broken down into fibres and also recycled cotton.
The collection is called The (Re)Collection, which features 16 items all sporting the Diesel logo with a Coca Cola twist.

This limited edition line is only available through a secret shopping page on the diesel website, I will leave the link at the end of this post.
When you get onto the website you will be given instructions to scan any recycling logo using your mobile camera, which when scanned will then direct you to a site where you can purchase the collection....how exclusive!

Michelle Moorehead, the VP of Global Licensing and Retail for Coca Cola stated that the collection does not only generate awareness of the importance of recycling in a very approachable way, but it also celebrates individuality.

The founder of Diesel, Renzo Rosso suggested that the collection is a collaboration between two authentic and iconic brands that are both committed to a more responsible business.

With Coca Cola being an organisation that mass produces plastic bottles of the black goodness, it is great to see them taking this step in order to provide more sustainable products.

While Coca Cola bottles have been 100% recyclable for a long time now, the company have just announced a new bottle that they will be producing, which is made from 25% marine plastic. Meaning that Coca Cola have been collecting plastic from within our oceans and our using them to create new 100% recyclable bottles.

However, is this enough?

60 million plastic bottles fill our oceans every year...what is to say that these new Marine bottles will not also end up there? While companies say that there plastic bottles are 100% recyclable, are they really being recycled?  Should Coca Cola be getting rid of plastic packaging once and for all?

If Coca Cola was such an authentic and responsible business, shouldn't they be looking at ways in which they themselves can reduce their plastic production to as little as possible?

Diesel, however, seem to be going above and beyond in the sustainability protest, with their recent campaign encouraging customers to 'Enjoy Before Returning' their clothes.

This comes after the recent trend of 'wardrobing' has occurred, when people will purchase clothes, wear them on a night out, and then return them to the store.

Many companies have found this a difficult issue to deal with, with ASOS even changing its returns policy and possible blacklisting if returning too much!

Although Diesel took this by the horns by launching this campaign.

A great marketing stunt if I do say so.....
